Side event at the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024: “Exploring the Synergy: Mine Action, Climate, and the Youth.”


On April 16, NAMYO hosted a side event at the ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024 in New York!


The panel discussion titled “Exploring the Synergy: Mine Action, Climate, and the Youth” was organized in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations and the National Chapter of NAMYO in Azerbaijan, National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (NAYORA).


The panel featured speakers including Mr. Farhad Isayev, Deputy Head of Risk Education, International and Public Relations Department of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), Dr. Yunis Gurbanov, School of International and Public Affairs at the Columbia University, Ms. Shargiyya Hasanova, Leading Advisor of Youth Department at the Ministry of Youth and Sport, and Mr. Rafael Hajibayli, Chairperson of the National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (NAYORA). The panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Sama Baghirova, External Affairs and Research Center Coordinator at NAMYO.


Objectives of the event focused on raising awareness about the environmental consequences of mine contamination, empowering youth to address the challenges posed by such contamination and highlighting the importance of consideration of climate change induced hazards in the mine action programs.
